EPISODE 48: ANTHONY ROMAN

Three’s company when fellow exiled Long Islander Anthony Roman dips “backstage” to chat in-depth about the world’s most resourceful skinhead terrorizing his band Garden Variety, as well as how they got lumped in with the New York hardcore scene of the early 90’s based more on location than sound.  We also discuss the pointed difference in sound with his next group, Radio 4, and how that contributed to their success (as well as a couple of bummer shows), and we also delve into Anthony’s current career as a music supervisor.  Lots of valley in this stream on this week’s WORST GIG EVER!

EPISODE 47 - MO DIGGS

Mo Diggs - one of Long Island’s finest and funniest comics (and perhaps the only one of Egyptian origin) - makes an appearance in “the green room” to dole out some nightmarish tales of performing at a Russian club deep in Brooklyn and bombing hard, the struggle to find his own voice, dealing with a myriad of eccentrics in the L.I. comedy scene (including a young Mike Pace), and why the kids don’t appreciate Blind Lemon Jefferson.  Tons of tumultous titter on this week’s WORST GIG EVER!

EPISODE 46: WALTER SCHREIFELS

Man of the hour, tower of power, and a musical influence on both Mike and Geoff, Walter Schreifels stops “backstage” to “break down” a few of the crummier gigs he’s had in his illustrious career playing in such renowned bands as Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits, and Youth of Today.  From performing in front of thousands of aloof Frenchmen, to getting in with the punks at goofy apartment shows in New York in the mid 80’s, to all of the tough choices and maneuvering of signing to a major label in his early 20’s at the height of the post-Nirvana feeding frenzy, Walter’s been there and done that, and he looks back with self-deprecation and grace (the man has grace).  Lots of stop/starts and changes on a dime in this week’s WORST GIG EVER!

EPISODE 42: TYLER RANN

Guitarist/singer/sharp dressed man Tyler Rann graces us with his presence to share some tuff gigs from his days in influential late nineties/early aughts New Jersey-based pop-punk practioneers Midtown.  From waking up in trailer parks before the first show of their first tour, to performing on indian reservations with natives to bringing bands like My Chemical Romance, New Found Glory, and Fallout Boy on their first tour (only to have those acts eclipse Midtown in terms of popularity), to spending way too much money on music videos and carousing with the cast of the Real World/Road Rules Challenge in Jamaica, Tyler sheds some light on a time when kids playing basement shows quickly found themselves performing in arenas.  Plenty of potent pop-punk potatables on this week’s WORST GIG EVER!
